ASEAN University Sports Council (AUSC)
The principal objective of the AUSC is to create the conditions for a meeting and an exchange between University Sports persons from the ASEAN region in a context that brings together culture, education and physical activity. AUSC creates conditions for University athletes and sports leaders from different backgrounds to get to know understand each other in order to be enriched with all the aspects of their diversity. AUSC with its origin in 1981 has seen 14 ASEAN University Games (AUG). Through AUG, the Council brings together the University Community in a wider sense, necessarily to achieve harmony between academic excellence and top-level sports. The AUSC also aims to become a powerful channel of communication for bringing together the various communities. The ASEAN University Games (AUG) is organized biennially by host countries on rotational basis. The host nation shall propose the games to be hosted at a Council meeting and all decisions pertaining to the AUG will be on consensus by the nations. With its inception in 1981, the ASEAN University Games has grown in strength, numbers and quality. The inaugural setting up of the permanent AUSC Secretariat inMalaysia with further help in the realization of the objectives of AUSC. Indeed the AUSC has worked hard in promoting solidarity and has contributed to the ongoing goodwill, understanding and comradeship of nations in the true ASEAN spirit. The spirit of regional cooperation and solidarity upheld by ASEAN over the years remains steadfast in the aim of setting up the ASEAN University Sports Council in 1981. |
Asian University Sports Federation
The Asian University Sports Federation (AUSF) was formed in 1992 aims at providing a platform for all university students in Asia to exchange and interact through sports. The national university sports federation in each country/region may apply for membership of AUSF and join all programs and events organized by the Federation. As of November 2016, AUSF has a total of 38 members. When the Federation was established in 1992, there was only 10 founding members; membership of AUSF has grown significantly in the last twenty years. International University Sport Federation (FISU)
The Universiades and World University Championships are conducted under the auspices of the International University Sports Federation (FISU). As a member of FISU, SUSC is the only organisation authorised to enter Singaporean teams or individuals to compete in FISU events. FISU appoints the hosts of the Universiades and World University Championships in accordance with FISU regulations and candidature process. The Universiades are multisport events with many similarities to the Olympic Games and are held in the odd numbered years. The World University Championships are single sport events held in the even numbered years.
